Blog!

Another week, another blog entry. I didn’t have much of interest to say this last week, since I spent most of it putting up huge maps at work. There’s nothing quite like being 5’4” and putting up 9x14’ maps. Paper cuts aside, it was a good week.

On Friday, I had more bands put in my mouth. For those of you who don’t know, I’m in braces now. Lucky me! The top is done and ready to go and I’ll get the bottom set on in February. I was very excited that these didn’t hurt that badly, until yesterday when I tried eating some cheese cubes and it hurt. Yep, now it hurts to chew on a cheese cube. I guess that means more liquid food for me. This is the best diet EVER.

People keep asking me if they’ve tightened the braces or added rubber bands or random other horrible memories from their experience with braces, but I ran off and got the newest, most high-tech braces out there. Instead of the metal wire being attached to the metal thing on the tooth with rubber bands and held there, the wire goes through the metal thing and is free to move around. There’s just a little trap door that allows the wire to get in, and that’s it when the wire is attached. No multi-colored ties or wire wrap-arounds are required.

This week should be more exciting, with a trip to Joplin at the end of the week and a Civil Air Patrol activity on Saturday in Jefferson City. I’m very hopeful that by the time I get to Joplin, my teeth will have stopped hurting enough I can eat at the Outback Steakhouse across the street from my hotel, because I haven’t had steak in awhile (over two weeks is awhile in my world).

Bob from work gave me Sid Meier’s Pirates. I can’t decide if I like it or not, or at least how much I like it. On one hand, it gets rather repetitive. On the other, I’m a pirate! I sail from port to port, attacking ships in between. I find hidden treasure, take out other pirates, dance with governor’s daughters so they’ll give me things, and sack towns. I think I’m supposed to be rescuing my long lost family, too, but that seems rather complicated. Argh!

It is supposed to get into the high 60’s today here in Springfield, although it is a tad windy. Isn’t January supposed to be cold?
